Tec-Ed staff members are active in all the major usability and human factors professional societies. We attend and present at professional conferences to learn and exchange results of the latest research in our field. See Published Work for our most recent papers and publications.
Professional affiliations and activities ensure that Tec-Ed can apply the latest, most relevant research methodology and data to your projects. They also show Tec-Ed’s commitment to employee development. Ongoing participation in the professional community is the only way to ensure the validity and relevance of usability and design techniques and methodology.
Tec-Ed employees regularly contribute to activities, meetings, and publications of the following organizations:
ACM SIGCHI—Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction. This organization brings together people working on the design, evaluation, implementation, and study of interactive computing systems for human use. ACM SIGCHI sponsors the annual CHI conference.
ACM SIGDOC—Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group (SIG) on the Design of Communication (DOC). With a focus on the design of communication, SIGDOC emphasizes the potentials, the practices, and the problems of multiple kinds of communication technologies, such as web applications, user interfaces, and online and print documentation. ACM SIGDOC sponsors the annual SIGDOC conference.
ACM SIGIR—Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group (SIG) on Information Retrieval. ACM SIGIR addresses issues ranging from theory to user demands in the application of computers to the acquisition, organization, storage, retrieval, and distribution of information. ACM SIGIR sponsors the annual SIGIR conference.
ASIS&T—American Society for Information Science and Technology. The mission of ASIS&T is to advance the information sciences and related applications of information technology by providing focus, opportunity, and support to information professionals and organizations. ASIS&T sponsors the annual IA Summit conference.
DUX—A biannual conference sponsored by premier professional societies, the Designing for User eXperience conference gathers together researchers and practitioners of all the design disciplines and related fields to share their stories and experiences on how the needs and goals of both users and businesses are met through design.
HFES—Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. The Society’s mission is to promote the discovery and exchange of knowledge concerning the characteristics of human beings that are applicable to the design of systems and devices of all kinds.
IEEE PCS—IEEE Professional Communication Society. The Society’s mission is to foster a community dedicated to understanding and promoting effective communication in engineering, scientific, and other technical environments.
STC—Society for Technical Communication. STC is an individual membership organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication.
UPA—Usability Professionals’ Association. UPA supports usability specialists, people from all aspects of human-centered design, and the broad family of disciplines that create the user experience in promoting the design and development of usable products.
